WordPress 5.0.x UPDATE (learn more)
To use a WordPress theme you must have a working version of Wordpress already installed. For information in regard to installing the WordPress platform, please refer to the WordPress Codex here
After extract the main zip file, you'll see these folders and files:
This template works well for WordPress 3.6, update yours if needed.
Installing the theme can be done in two ways. You can upload the theme ZIP file using the built in WordPress theme upload, or copy the files through an FTP client.
After activating the theme, you would notice the message box on the top of admin pages to ask you install/activate some plugins(Layerslider, bbPress and BM Mega Menu), you could use them for free or dismiss the messages.
To set up logo for your website, please go to ThemeOptions(Bee) > General Setting > Logo, here you could upload a logo image or input logo text.
Also you could upload a high dpi logo image for retina displayers. It is recommended to upload a double size logo image for retina logo. Please set the custom logo image(not the retina logo image) width if you upload the retina logo
You could choose a predefined color scheme for you site, go to ThemeOptions(Bee) > Styling
Click here to check out where the Theme Main Color, First Auxiliary Color and Second Auxiliary Color be used.
You could also set up de detail colors for your custom design.
To set up the frontpage, you need to create a page which you want to use it as frontpage, after that, go to ThemeOptions(Bee) > Frontpage option to select the page from dropdown menu.
Before building your custom menu, you need to create your pages first, then navigate to Appearance > Menus, it is recommended to create you menu from Pages or Links.
Bee supports MegaMenu developed by our team(from v1.6), to use it you need to install the BM MEGA MENU for Bee wp theme plugin. There will be a top message box on admin pages to guide you installing the needed plugins.
You could activate MegaMenu on the 1 level menu item, once it is enabled, the menu on front-end would be a wide menu supporting multi-columns. The Submenu items would be placed one by one (not more than 6 items in one row) until you let them by activating "start a new row".
If you want to UberMenu(Another mega menu wp plugin). Please deactivate the BM Mega Menu. The default skin(black and white) css is override by bee style. We suggest you use it.
If you are new to WordPress or have problems creating posts or pages that look like the theme preview you can import dummy posts and pages here that will definitely help to understand how those tasks are done. On admin panel the left hand, click "Bee" to enter Theme Otions, you could click the "Import Demo Data" button to import Demo Data to your site.
1) If it tips "not successful!", please try to click "Import My saved Data"
2) Find the demo-data.xml in your theme fold and select it, operate step by step as tip.
If you want to add your own CSS Rules to the theme. We heavily recommend to use a so called Child Theme for that. Using a Child theme allows you to update the theme and at the same time you also make sure that you will never lose any of your modifications to a theme update.
Using a child theme is simple: Just download our demo child theme here and install it, as well as the original "Bee" Theme on your server. Instead of activating the Original Theme you activate the Child theme - "Bee Child Theme". Now if you want to add any custom css to your theme use the child themes style.css. If you want to add any custom php functions use the child themes functions.php.
Now if you update the original Theme with the latest Version, your child theme will stay in place with all your customizations.
